What is a walk-in clinic?

A walk-in clinic is a medical office where you can be seen the same day without booking ahead. At Texas Primary Care Associates, walk-in visits are handled by the same primary care team that provides ongoing primary care, so your visit, test results and follow-up stay in one place.

Walk-in care is meant for illnesses and minor injuries that need attention today but are not life-threatening. For emergencies, call 911.

  • No appointment needed, Monday–Friday 8am–5pm
  • Rapid flu, COVID-19 and strep testing when your provider recommends it
  • Prescriptions sent to your pharmacy when appropriate
  • Work and school notes after your visit

How a walk-in visit works

Most walk-in visits follow the same four steps, from check-in to a clear plan for getting better.

01

Walk in or call ahead

Come in Monday–Friday between 8am and 5pm. Calling first lets you ask about the current wait.

02

Check in

Show your photo ID and insurance card and tell the front desk why you are visiting.

03

See a provider

A provider reviews your symptoms, checks your vital signs, examines you and runs rapid tests if needed.

04

Leave with a plan

You get a diagnosis, any prescriptions sent to your pharmacy, a work or school note, and follow-up if needed.

Walk-in clinic, urgent care or emergency room?

Choosing the right place saves time and money. A walk-in primary care clinic fits most everyday illnesses on weekdays; emergencies always belong in the ER.

Walk-in care that connects to your primary care

Many walk-in clinics treat you once and send you on. At Texas Primary Care Associates, a walk-in visit can be the start of ongoing care. If a sore throat visit turns up high blood pressure, or a sick visit shows your blood sugar is high, the same team can follow up with blood pressure care, diabetes management or chronic disease care.

What to bring to your walk-in visit

  • A photo ID and your insurance card
  • A list of the medicines and supplements you take
  • Any school, sports or work forms that need to be filled out
  • Your pharmacy name and location

When to call before you come

Walk-ins are welcome, but a quick call to (903) 230-9811 helps in a few cases:

  • Allergy testing: some allergy medicines must be stopped before testing
  • Lab work that needs fasting, such as some glucose or cholesterol tests
  • Late arrivals close to 5pm, so the team can tell you if there is still time to be seen

Insurance and cost

Texas Primary Care Associates accepts most major insurance plans, including Blue Cross Blue Shield, UnitedHealthcare, Medicare and Ambetter. What you pay depends on your plan’s copay and deductible. See insurance accepted or call to verify your coverage before your visit.
