Flu antiviral medicine tends to work best when it is started early, usually within the first two days of symptoms. If you think you have the flu, come in as soon as you can.

When should I see a doctor for a cold or flu?
Come in if you have a fever that lasts more than a couple of days, symptoms that get worse after starting to improve, a cough that lasts longer than ten days, ear or sinus pain, or if you have a chronic condition such as diabetes, asthma or heart disease.
Go to the ER or call 911 for trouble breathing, chest pain, confusion, bluish lips or severe dehydration.
What happens at a cold or flu visit?
We ask about your symptoms and health history, check your vital signs and examine your throat, ears and lungs. Rapid tests for flu, COVID-19 or strep can be run during the visit when needed.
Your provider then explains what is causing your symptoms and recommends treatment, which may include antiviral or antibiotic medicine when it is appropriate, plus care you can do at home.
